The break is over: After his triumphant victory at Wimbledon, Italy's tennis star Jannik Sinner returns to the ATP Tour this week at the Masters 1000 tournament in Cincinnati. For the current world number one, the tournament in the US state of Ohio is the official start to the North American hard court season and the dress rehearsal for the upcoming US Open, where the South Tyrolean will be the defending champion.
After skipping the tournament in Toronto to recuperate, Sinner is now back in action. Thanks to his top position in the world rankings, he enjoys a bye in the first round in Cincinnati. His first match is therefore scheduled for next weekend, Saturday, August 9, or Sunday, August 10. An exact match date has not yet been set. His opening opponent will either be the Czech Vit Kopriva (ATP 78) or a player from the qualifiers.
The potential path to the final is already mapped out: Canadian Gabriel Diallo could be waiting in the third round and an Italian duel with Lorenzo Musetti could be possible in the quarter-finals. In the semi-finals, there could be a clash with top players such as Holger Rune or Taylor Fritz, while another final against Carlos Alcaraz or Alexander Zverev would only be possible in the final.
