Naples – The Coelmo Napoli City Half Marathon is joining the new international “SuperHalfs Europa” running series. According to the organisers at Napoli Running, the race in the capital of Campania is one of six founding members of the new circuit. The series begins with the Naples half marathon on Sunday, February 21, 2027.
The news was announced on November 6, 2026, at an industry event in Porto. Alongside Naples, the new “SuperHalfs Europa” series includes half marathons in Warsaw, Belgrade, Vienna, Riga and Stockholm. It expands the existing “SuperHalfs Originals” format, whose races take place in Lisbon, Prague, Berlin, Copenhagen, Cardiff and Valencia.
Runners can take part in both series at the same time and earn two different “SuperMedals.” Each series has its own “SuperPassport” to record participation. The races can be completed in any order.
International recognition for Naples
Organiser Napoli Running sees its inclusion in the series as confirmation of the race’s positive development. Carlo Capalbo, president of Napoli Running, said it crowned a long journey built on work, passion and credibility. The step showed that Naples had reached the “Champions League” of half marathons and could compete with older, established events.
City representatives also welcomed the decision. Mayor Gaetano Manfredi said the inclusion confirmed the city’s growing international profile. Naples was increasingly establishing itself as a world capital of sport, benefiting tourism and economic development too.
The Coelmo Napoli City Half Marathon already holds the “Label Road Races” designation from World Athletics. According to the organiser, the race attracts participants from around 90 countries, with 60 percent of runners travelling from outside the region. With 10,000 participants at its most recent edition, it is one of the city’s largest sporting events.
Italy’s fastest half marathon
The course in Naples is considered particularly fast and currently holds both the Italian men’s and women’s half marathon records. Yeman Crippa ran 59:01 there in 2025, while Sofiia Yaremchuk set the existing women’s record of 1:08:27 in 2024. According to the organisers, one in three participants sets a personal best in Naples.
For the 14th edition on February 21, 2027, the organisers are aiming for a record 12,000 runners. Registration is already open and, according to their announcement, is ahead of the same period last year. The route runs from the Mostra d’Oltremare along the seafront and past some of the city’s best-known sights.
