Venice – Venezia FC beat Udinese Calcio 2:1 on Friday evening, November 6, and temporarily moved off the bottom of Serie A. Kike Pérez scored the winning goal in the 65th minute with a left-footed shot from distance. After the opening match of the eleventh round, the hosts have six points, ahead of Udinese on five.
The score at half-time at Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo was 0:0. After the break, Toma Bašić put Venezia ahead. Udinese equalised in the 57th minute when Venezia player Matías Moreno diverted the ball into his own net. The goal stood after a video review of a possible offside by Nicolò Zaniolo. Eight minutes later, Pérez scored to make it 2:1.
Venezia held on to their lead. Another goal for the hosts by Adams, which would have made it 3:1, was disallowed for offside. All three valid goals therefore came in the second half. It was the second win of the season for coach Davide Nicola's team and their first after three consecutive defeats.
Venezia move above Udinese
Udinese remained winless on the debut of their new coach Paolo Zanetti. The team have taken only one point and lost eight times in their last nine league matches. For Zanetti, the match marked a return to a former workplace. He had previously coached Venezia and now stood on the Penzo touchline for the first time as Udinese's head coach.
Both teams now head into the international break. Venezia gained some breathing space at the bottom with their home win, but are only one point ahead of the visitors. Nicola's team face Juventus after the break. Udinese remain bottom as the other fixtures of the eleventh round are played.
