Sesto - On Saturday, September 13, the starting signal will be given for the 28th edition of the South Tyrol Three Peaks Alpine Run in Sesto. The prestigious trail running event will once again attract a top-class international field of participants to the breathtaking landscape of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On the challenging route from the village center to the Dreizinnenhütte, top athletes and ambitious amateur runners compete for personal best times and unforgettable nature experiences.
Top international field at the start
The race promises to be very exciting. In the women's race, Greek champion Dimitra Theocharis will be trying to improve on her third place from last year. She will be up against strong competition, including the reigning champion Sara Bottarelli, the US American Oakley Olson and the up-and-coming local hero Lena Zingerle from Sterzing. The men's race is also expected to be close between athletes such as Britain's George Foster and local Samuel Demetz. They all have to tackle the challenging 17.9-kilometre course with over 1,350 meters of elevation gain, which is considered one of the most beautiful and toughest in the Alps.
A fascination that has lasted for decades
In addition to the sporting elite, it is above all the unique atmosphere that characterizes the race. A small group of "veterans" is the best proof of this: runners such as Giuseppe Ventura from Val di Fiemme and Adriano Grion from Aquileia have not missed a single one of the 27 editions to date. For them, arriving at the Drei Zinnen hut with its direct view of the Three Peaks is the greatest motivation every year. Her story symbolizes the fascination that thousands of runners share and that makes the race an unforgettable experience. For last-minute runners, registration is still possible at a reduced price until August 31. On the following Sunday, September 14, the popular Mini Run for children and families rounds off the sports weekend in Sesto.
