At its 49th edition on January 17 and 18, 2026, the traditional Dobbiaco-Cortina cross-country marathon will feature a fundamentally new route. The reason for this is the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, for which parts of the original route will be used. However, the charm of the classic race is to be retained.
As announced by the organizing committee, both the start and finish will be in Dobbiaco for the first time in the history of the race. The format with two competition days will remain the same. On Saturday, January 17th, the 42-kilometer race in classic technique will take place first. The 35-kilometer free technique race will follow on Sunday.
The new route starts at the military airport in Dobbiaco and takes participants through the picturesque Pustertal valley towards the Höhlenstein valley. Passing Lake Dobbiaco and the famous view of the Three Peaks, the route leads to the Cimabanche Pass, which lies at an altitude of over 1,500 meters. This pass in the Ampezzo region marks the turning point of the route. From there, the athletes run back to the Nordic Arena in Dobbiaco.
The committee under President Herbert Santer has already opened registration and is offering an early bird discount until August 31.
