A family vacation in the mountains of Trentino came to a tragic end on Thursday. A 12-year-old boy of Pakistani origin, who lived with his family in the province of Vicenza, drowned in Lake Molveno. The family was on a boat trip when the accident occurred.
Tragedy at the end of a boat trip
According to initial reconstructions by the Carabinieri, the family was at the end of their boat trip and was about to dock on the shore. It seems that the parents had moved away for a moment to moor the boat. During this brief moment, the 12-year-old fell into the water for an as yet unexplained reason. His father immediately raised the alarm after noticing the incident. The exact dynamics of the accident are still being investigated by the police.
Desperate rescue attempts were unsuccessful
A large contingent of rescue workers rushed to the scene of the accident. The Molveno volunteer fire department and specialized divers from Trento systematically searched the water along the shore. After an agonizingly long time - according to initial information, the boy had been underwater for at least 40 minutes - the divers were able to recover the boy's lifeless body. The paramedics fought long and hard for his life and resuscitated him on the spot before he was flown by rescue helicopter to Santa Chiara Hospital in Trento. However, the doctors there were only able to determine that the 12-year-old had died.
