The exuberant atmosphere of the Ferragosto night came to an abrupt and tragic end in Terracina, in the province of Latina. At around 3:30 in the morning, a 16-year-old boy was killed in a hit-and-run accident. He was walking home with his brother and a friend after the festivities on the beach when the group was hit by a car.
Hit and run after fatal accident
According to initial reconstructions, the incident took place on the provincial road that connects Terracina with San Felice Circeo. The three teenagers were walking along the road towards their vacation accommodation when a light-colored sedan approached at high speed and hit the group. All help came too late for the 16-year-old; the arriving emergency services (118) were only able to determine his death. His brother was uninjured, while his friend was taken to the "Fiorini" hospital in Terracina with minor injuries. The driver who caused the accident did not stop to provide assistance, but continued on his way.
Police are looking for witnesses and a fleeing vehicle
The road police, together with officers from the local police station, immediately launched an investigation. Investigators are currently analyzing images from surveillance cameras in the area and interviewing possible witnesses to identify the fleeing driver. An emotional appeal by the victim's uncle, Andrea Casale, on social media is also looking for clues and describes the suspected vehicle involved in the accident. According to this, it is probably a beige-colored car, which should be damaged on the bumper and the passenger side mirror. The authorities are asking anyone who has made relevant observations to contact them immediately.
