After 19 months of closure, the legendary Strada della Forraone of the most famous panoramic roads in Europe, has been reopened to traffic. Vehicles have been able to drive along the spectacular route again since Friday, August 1, 2025. The road had been closed since December 16, 2023, after a massive rockfall occurred. Around 8,000 cubic meters of rock came loose from the slopes of the gorge and fell into Lake Garda.
The closure of the SP38 provincial road on the western shore of Lake Garda near Tremosine was a considerable burden for the local population and economy. The extensive renovation work over the past year and a half has included the removal of rocks, geotechnical stabilization and the construction of rockfall protection barriers.
The simple reopening ceremony at midday was attended by the President of the Province of Brescia, Emanuele Moraschini, and the Mayor of Tremosine, Battista Girardi, among others. Although the road is now passable again, a temporary regulation is in place that initially only allows traffic uphill to ensure safety and avoid traffic jams. The reopening is an important step back to normality for the region.
