A dramatic incident recently took place in the bay of San Francesco on the island of Ischia. A 37-year-old man from Naples was arrested after he tried to evade a police check and rammed a state police jet ski with his boat.
The incident began when the coastguard discovered that the man's boat was not insured and was therefore confiscated. A short time later, the port authority was alerted as the owner had fled with the boat. Officers from the naval forces and the port authority then took up the pursuit.
The boat driver refused to stop and tried to shake off the emergency services with a risky maneuver. In doing so, he collided with one of the two police jet skis, causing the officer at the wheel to fall into the water. The police officer had to be taken to hospital with minor injuries and is expected to be treated for five days.
The arrested man's lawyers deny the allegations and claim that a live video of the incident on Facebook exonerates their client. The footage, which is said to show a completely different dynamic, was presented as evidence. The man now faces several charges, including resisting law enforcement, assault and damage to state property.
