Trappeto – Following a brutal home robbery targeting an 80-year-old woman and her son in Trappeto, in the province of Palermo, the Carabinieri have arrested three young men. The alleged perpetrators, aged 16, 17, and 18, are strongly suspected of committing a serious joint robbery. Arrest warrants were issued against them and have now been executed.
The incident occurred on September 17, 2026. The three young men are alleged to have gained access to the victims’ home through a patio door on the ground floor. Once inside, they first attacked the son, struck him in the face, and then tied him up with an electrical cord. They are also alleged to have threatened the man with a gun in order to obtain cash.
Extensive investigations led to the arrest
As the incident unfolded, the alleged robbers broke into the 80-year-old woman’s bedroom. They forced the elderly woman to hand over her jewelry, including her wedding ring, as well as her bank card. After the incident, the perpetrators fled with their loot.
The investigation, conducted by the Carabinieri of the Partinico Company in collaboration with their colleagues from Carini, yielded a strong body of evidence against the three suspects. Among other things, investigators analyzed footage from surveillance cameras in Trappeto and Balestrate. A key clue came from the stolen bank card, which was used that very same night to make a substantial cash withdrawal.
By analyzing the video footage, the Carabinieri were also able to identify the vehicle used in the crime. It turned out that the car had been stolen and later abandoned in the Balestrate area. Reconstructing the three men’s escape route on foot after they abandoned the vehicle also helped solve the case. The 18-year-old was taken to Pagliarelli Prison, while the two minors were transferred to the Malaspina Juvenile Detention Center. The accused are presumed innocent.
