Montoro – During a drug raid in Montoro, a town in the province of Avellino, the Carabinieri discovered nearly one kilogram of cocaine. A 23-year-old man, who was already under house arrest, was subsequently arrested and transferred to the Bellizzi prison.
Investigators from the Montoro Carabinieri station carried out the operation with the assistance of detection dogs from a K-9 unit in Sarno. The goal was to combat drug trafficking in the region. A large quantity of narcotics was found during a search of the suspect’s person and residence.
Large-Scale Drug Seizure and Evidence
The drug-sniffing dogs were crucial to the success of the raid. They led the Carabinieri to a shoebox in which a large vacuum-sealed package containing 930 grams of cocaine was hidden. In addition to this amount, investigators seized two more bags containing a total of over 36 grams of cocaine, as well as a small package containing about 96 grams of hashish that had already been prepared for sale.
In addition to the drugs, the Carabinieri also found a large amount of packaging material, including a roll of plastic wrap, numerous vacuum-sealed bags—some of which had already been cut to size and used—and a hard case for a precision electronic scale. These findings suggest that the drugs were professionally prepared for sale. Four cell phones, believed to have been used to coordinate the illegal transactions, and 1,160 euros in cash in various denominations—suspected to be proceeds from drug trafficking—were also seized. The money was deposited into a non-interest-bearing postal savings account, while the drugs, electronic devices, and packaging materials were turned over to the relevant judicial authorities. The accused is presumed innocent.
