Arezzo – The Carabinieri in Arezzo have broken up an alleged gang of gold and precious metal thieves. Three Albanian nationals were placed in pretrial detention pursuant to a court order. They are accused of jointly committing thefts, under aggravating circumstances, at several gold and precious metals processing companies.
The investigation by the Nucleo Operativo Radiomobile of the Arezzo Company ran from November 2025 to September of this year. It led to the identification of a well-organized criminal group that specialized in burglaries targeting the gold industry. A garage in Trezzano sul Naviglio, in the province of Milan, served as the logistical base for the alleged perpetrators.
Organized thefts resulting in significant damage
The suspects are believed to have hidden high-powered vehicles with cloned license plates in the garage for use in their nighttime raids. In addition, „clean“ vehicles for everyday use, professional burglary tools, and some of the stolen goods were stored there. According to the statement, the break-ins were carried out by forcing open doors and safes, drilling holes in walls, and disabling alarm sensors and video surveillance systems.
The three men are charged with five counts of theft that occurred during the nights of November 21–22, 2025, at a gold processing plant, as well as on the night of November 21 to February 22, 2026, at two gold shops and a furniture refinishing shop. Another incident is alleged to have taken place on February 23, 2026, at a different gold shop. During these crimes, gold, silver, bronze, brass, and technical equipment were stolen, resulting in total damages of approximately 130,000 euros.
In light of the overwhelming evidence and the high risk of repeat offenses, the investigating judge ordered pretrial detention for all three suspects at the request of the public prosecutor’s office. The suspects are presumed innocent.
