The feverish search for six-year-old Carlo, who disappeared on the beach at Cavallino Treporti on Monday afternoon, has come to a tragic end. The boy's body was found in the sea during the night.
The boy from Roncade near Treviso escaped from his mother in a moment of inattention while playing in the water at around 4 pm. Immediately afterwards, a large-scale search operation was launched under the coordination of the coastguard. Divers, helicopters and fire department jet skis searched the sea off the coast, while countless holidaymakers formed a spontaneous human chain on the beach to help the rescue workers search the shallow waters.
With each passing hour, the hope of finding the boy alive dwindled. That night came the sad certainty: the lifeless body of the six-year-old was discovered in the water about a hundred meters from the shore. All help came too late for the boy. The news caused deep consternation on the Venetian coast.
