Rome - Following the brutal attack on a 60-year-old woman last Sunday in the Tor Tre Teste park, the Carabinieri have arrested a 26-year-old man. The suspect, who comes from Gambia, is legally resident in Italy and is accused of robbery and sexual violence. He has already confessed to the crime.
Items of clothing led to identification
Immediately after the crime was reported, the investigators coordinated by the public prosecutor's office in Rome launched an intensive manhunt. Based on the detailed description of the victim and the analysis of video footage along the perpetrator's escape route, decisive clues were gathered. The manhunt was successful a few hours ago: The officers recognized the man in front of Termini Central Station as he was wearing the same shoes and cap as at the time of the crime.
When confronted, the 60-year-old identified the man as the perpetrator beyond doubt. In an initial statement, the 26-year-old confessed to the crime and stated that he had acted under the influence of drugs that he had purchased shortly beforehand in a neighboring district. The arrest must now be confirmed by a court.
