A shocking act of violence has shaken the Ligurian port city of La Spezia. This Wednesday morning, a 57-year-old man killed his 54-year-old ex-wife. The femicide took place in a villa in Via Genova, where the woman worked as a domestic servant. What is particularly tragic is that the perpetrator was already subject to a court-ordered restraining order, which should have kept him away from his victim.
The deadly ambush at the workplace
The emergency call from the villa was received by the authorities at around 11 am. According to initial reconstructions, the victim was doing cleaning work with the owner of the house when the ex-husband suddenly appeared. The 57-year-old, who lives nearby, gained access to the house. It is believed that a violent argument ensued, during which the man pulled out a knife and stabbed his former partner three times. All help came too late for the 54-year-old woman; the emergency services were only able to determine her death. A witness to the incident immediately alerted the police.
Escape and confession
After the crime, the murderer initially fled the scene. On his escape, he got rid of the murder weapon. About an hour later, his attempt to evade responsibility came to an end: He handed himself in to the carabinieri in the nearby village of Ceparana and confessed to the crime. The responsible public prosecutor and the investigators from the provincial command of the Carabinieri immediately began an investigation at the scene of the crime in order to clarify the exact course of events. The case once again highlights the inadequacy of protective measures in cases of domestic violence.
