Yesterday afternoon, dramatic scenes unfolded on the beach at Agropoli in the province of Salerno. Several bathers noticed an apparently unconscious woman floating in the water several meters from the shore. The maresciallo and commander of the carabinieri station of Colorno in the province of Parma, who was on the beach privately and off duty, responded immediately to the calls for help from those present.
Despite the strong surf, he jumped into the sea and pulled the lifeless woman safely ashore. There he immediately began life-saving first aid measures to clear the woman's airways of water. A short time later, the woman was handed over to the arriving emergency services 118, who ensured that she received further care.
During the rescue operation, the courageous carabiniere suffered minor abrasions to his arms and legs. The identity of the rescued woman and the cause of the incident are currently unknown.
