Rimini – The Tourism Project Sentieri del Carignano won the Premio GIST 2026 Travel Food Award in the „Destinazione enogastronomica Italia“ category at the TTG Travel Experience in Rimini. The award went to the Fondazione Cammino Minerario di Santa Barbara, the organization behind the Carignano hiking trail in the Sulcis region of Sardinia.
A route through vineyards, mining history, and coastal scenery
The Sentieri del Carignano According to the announcement, they were first presented as a travel destination in September 2025. The project combines a themed hiking trail spanning over 220 kilometers and comprising 12 stages with the culture of the Carignano del Sulcis DOC. The route winds through vineyards, wineries, villages, archaeological sites, and landmarks reflecting the region’s mining history. Tastings and guided tours on-site, as well as press trips for national and international trade journalists, have been part of the marketing efforts since the project’s launch.
The Digital Community as a Catalyst for the Project
According to the Fondazione, another key component of the project is the involvement of a growing digital community. Travelers shared photos and stories of their experiences along the route on social media, which has increased the trail’s visibility among a younger audience interested in slow travel, nature, and local products. For the past ten years, the Fondazione Cammino Minerario di Santa Barbara has been promoting the pilgrimage route of the same name in southwestern Sardinia—a circular route of over 500 kilometers through the Sulcis Iglesiente, Arburese, and Guspinese regions. The Sentieri del Carignano expand this offering to include the connection between mountain farming heritage and winegrowing culture.
