Padua, Italy - In the midst of an immeasurable tragedy, the reaction of a father near Padua has caused shock and deep respect across the country. His 15-year-old son, M. P., was hit and killed by a car in Loreggia as he was crossing a crosswalk on his bicycle. But instead of accusing the driver, the boy's father, A. P., sought to be close to him to offer him comfort and forgiveness.
The 32-year-old driver was in severe shock after the terrible incident. He was on his way home from work when the tragedy occurred. He told the police that he only saw the teenager at the very last moment and was no longer able to prevent the collision.
"It's not your fault"
According to initial reconstructions, M. P. was riding with a friend at the end of a cycle path. He is said to have suddenly emerged from behind some plants before riding onto the road. When his father Alessandro arrived at the scene of the accident and learned of his son's death, he showed a gesture of extraordinary humanity. He approached the distraught driver and said to him: "Don't feel guilty, there was nothing you could have done to avoid the collision. I'm putting myself in your shoes, cheer up." While the father showed this incredible strength, Martin's mother suffered a fainting spell at the scene and had to be taken to hospital.
