In Borgo Valsugana, a municipality in Trentino, a 60-year-old woman was found dead in her apartment after being missing for days. Neighbors who were disturbed by a strong smell and the persistent silence coming from her first-floor apartment alerted the emergency services on Thursday, July 31. Firefighters, carabinieri and paramedics found Teresa di Fiore lying lifeless on her bed, where she had been crushed by an overturned wardrobe. The advanced state of decomposition indicated that the woman had been dead for at least a week.
Teresa di Fiore was originally from the province of Rome, was a teacher at the Tambosi Technical Institute in Trento and had lived in the apartment for around a year. According to initial police investigations, the cause of death is believed to be a tragic domestic accident. Presumably the wardrobe and a pull-out bed section fell on the woman while she was on the bed. The public prosecutor's office in Trento, represented by Patrizia Foiera, has ordered an autopsy to clarify the exact cause of death and the time of the accident beyond doubt.
