A terrible tragedy rocked the Gratosoglio district of Milan on Monday afternoon. A 71-year-old woman was hit and killed by the teenage occupants of a stolen car. The perpetrators are on the run and the police have launched a manhunt.
The woman, Cecilia De Astis, was standing on a traffic island in Via Saponaro when the driver of the car with French license plates lost control. The car left the road, hit the pensioner and threw her several meters. Immediately after the collision, the four young occupants abandoned the car and fled on foot. Help came too late for the 71-year-old.
As it turned out, the vehicle had been stolen from a French tourist just a few hours earlier. The police are currently analyzing images from surveillance cameras in which the fugitives can be clearly seen.
The Milan public prosecutor's office has initiated proceedings for involuntary manslaughter with failure to render assistance. This offense allows for the immediate arrest of the suspects as soon as they are caught. The hunt for the young perpetrators is in full swing.
