An unbelievable tragedy occurred today, Friday, in the northern district of Janò in Catanzaro. A two-year-old boy lost his life after being run over by a maneuvering van in the courtyard of his parents' house. All help came too late for the child; the arriving emergency services could only determine his death.
Driver did not notice the collision
According to initial reconstructions by the police, the boy was playing unsupervised in the yard for a brief moment when the terrible accident occurred. The driver of a van was reversing and hit the child without apparently noticing the collision. He continued on his way and was only located later by the alerted carabinieri. When the officers confronted him with what had happened, the man suffered a shock and became nauseous.
The scene of the accident was immediately cordoned off to enable evidence to be collected. The local police, together with the Carabinieri, began an investigation in order to fully clarify the exact course of the incident. The public prosecutor's office in Catanzaro has also been called in and has initiated proceedings to examine possible responsibilities and clarify the exact circumstances that led to the little boy's death.
