There was a fatal shooting at a rap party in Chicago late on Wednesday evening. Four people died and at least 14 others were injured.
The drama occurred at around 11 p.m. in the parking lot of Artis Restaurant & Lounge in the trendy River North district. Rapper Mello Buckzz was celebrating the release of her new album there. Suddenly, a black SUV drove up and several shots were fired. People ran away in panic, some collapsed covered in blood.
The fatalities include two men aged 24 and 25 and two women aged 26 and 27. Other guests at the party were seriously injured and taken to hospital, some of whom are still in mortal danger.
The police are calling it a targeted attack. It is still unclear whether Mello Buckzz herself was the target of the attack. The rapper expressed her dismay after the incident and asked her fans on social media to pray for the victims.
There is already a sense of alarm in Chicago, as more gun violence is regularly recorded in the period around American Independence Day. Last year, over 100 people were injured or killed by firearms during this weekend.
Investigators are now hoping for tips from the public and surveillance footage from the club's surroundings. The black SUV has so far disappeared. The police are searching intensively for the perpetrators.
