The draw for Wimbledon 2025 brings a direct Italian duel: Jannik Sinner, currently ranked number one in the world, will face Luca Nardi in the first round on Tuesday. A total of eleven Italian players are in the men's main draw. In addition to Sinner, Lorenzo Musetti, Flavio Cobolli and Matteo Berrettini are also seeded.
Other Italian matches are: Arnaldi against Van de Zandschulp, Sonego against Faria, Darderi against Safiullin, Bellucci against Crawford, Fognini against defending champion Carlos Alcaraz and Zeppieri against Mochizuki. Italy's presence is thus stronger than it has been for decades.
Jasmine Paolini is the number four seed in the women's draw and will first play Anastasija Sevastova. Lucia Bronzetti and Elisabetta Cocciaretto are also in the main draw. The latter will face the strong American Jessica Pegula right at the start.
After a successful few months on the WTA Tour, Italy's women are hoping to spring a surprise at Wimbledon. Paolini in particular is given a good chance of advancing deep into the tournament.
The strong Italian participation in both tableaus shows the growing importance of Italy in international tennis. Sinner is considered one of the big favorites for the title, while Paolini could cause a sensation in the women's singles. Possible Italian duels in later rounds also increase the excitement surrounding the tournament.
