On the weekend of June 27/28, 2025, traffic on the A4 highway (Venice-Trieste) will increase dramatically. Traffic experts warn of a "Bollino rosso", a red warning, due to numerous events such as the Frecce Tricolori air show in Jesolo and a concert by Ultimo in Lignano Sabbiadoro. Added to this is the classic tourist traffic at the start of the vacations.
Saturday will be the peak of the traffic jam: more than 194,000 vehicles are forecast, which corresponds to an increase of up to 18 % compared to the last few weeks. It will be particularly tight between San Donà di Piave and Portogruaro as well as at the Trieste/Lisert and Mestre - Terraglio/A57 exits.
The situation remains tense on Sunday. There are still over 169,000 vehicles on the route, which means there is a high potential for traffic jams, especially on the A4 and the access roads to the coastal towns.
Autostrade per l'Italia is increasing the deployment of personnel at toll stations and road junctions. Mobile ushers ("piazzalisti") ensure better traffic management, especially at hotspots such as San Donà di Piave, Portogruaro, Latisana and Trieste/Lisert.
Up-to-date traffic information is available via the Infoviaggiando service as well as apps, WhatsApp and Telegram channels. A toll-free information hotline (800 996099) completes the service offering.
It is highly likely that the A4 will become a bottleneck next weekend: the start of the vacations together with major events will cause considerable travel traffic. If you can, you should postpone your departure, consider alternative routes or start early.
