Klobenstein – By extending his contract with his hometown club, 18-year-old defenseman Leo Spornberger is sending a clear message: The young player from the Rittner Buam SkyAlps will remain with the Klobenstein hockey club for the 2026–27 season as well. The club announced this on Thursday.
First points scored at the senior level
During the 2025–26 season, Spornberger made a total of ten appearances for the senior team, scoring one goal and recording one assist. The left-handed shooter scored his most important goal to date on February 19 of this year in a decisive 6–0 victory over the HDD Jesenice in the pre-playoffs, when he scored to make it 5-0 at one point. For such a young defenseman, two points is a remarkable start to his professional career. Last season, Spornberger had captained the U19 team on the ice.
Sports Directors Satisfied with Progress
According to a club statement, the club’s two sporting directors, Dan Tudin and Alexander Eisath, spoke positively about the tall defender’s development. They praised his physical presence and his disciplined defensive play and expressed confidence that Spornberger will take the next step in his career in the coming season. His older brother, Peter Spornberger, is also a well-known figure in the Italian and German hockey scenes, making the family deeply rooted in the Ritten hockey tradition. According to the club, Leo Spornberger himself aims to earn even more playing time on the senior team through strong performances.
