You’ll play 18 holes (par 72, 6,130 meters) on a car-free private island, with the sound of the Adriatic Sea to your left and the tranquil lagoon of the Po Delta to your right: Albarella Golf Links is one of the most unusual golf courses in Veneto. The wind from the sea turns every shot into a mathematical challenge, while the pine trees and dunes give the course a true links-style character.
Isola di Albarella is located off the coast of Rosolina in the province of Rovigo, in the heart of the Po Delta Regional Park. The only way to reach the island is through a gate—golfers here can enjoy peace and quiet, nature, and a practice range stretching about 260 meters almost all the way to the beach. The course opened in 1972, making it one of the classics along the northern Adriatic coast.
Whether you're coming for a long weekend or incorporating Albarella into a longer golf trip, the course combines a relaxed island atmosphere with a challenging layout. You can find more destinations and tips in our overview of the Golf Vacations in Veneto.

The Course: An 18-hole course between the Adriatic Sea and the lagoon
The course stretches across about 70 hectares right through the island, alternating between the ocean side and the lagoon. At 6,130 meters (par 72, slope 131), you’ll encounter narrow, pine-lined fairways, water hazards, and deep bunkers that give the course its links-style character. The wind is almost always the deciding factor here: on calm days, Albarella is easy to play, but when the sea breeze picks up, even a par 4 becomes a serious challenge. Four tees per hole make the course fair for all handicaps—there are noticeable differences in distance from the white tees to the forward tees.
Who designed Albarella Golf Links?
The original 18-hole course was designed by English golf architect John Harris, who completed it in 1972. Harris has designed numerous courses in Europe and Asia and created Albarella as a natural links course that blends seamlessly with the island’s dune and lagoon landscape. In later years, the layout was revised by Italian architect Marco Croze. The result is a course that relies less on dramatic earthworks and more on the natural interplay of wind, water, and rows of pine trees.

Training Facility, Academy, and Services on the Island
The practice facility is one of the largest in the region: The driving range stretches about 260 meters toward the sea and features 30 hitting bays, 4 of which are covered. There are also practice greens and a practice bunker. The Golf Academy uses state-of-the-art technology such as TrackMan and FlightScope, allowing you to refine your swing and ball flight. A pro shop, clubhouse with a bar and restaurant, and rentals of clubs and (including electric) carts round out the offerings. Since Albarella is a car-free resort island with its own hotel, you can easily combine golf here with the beach, biking, and nature.
Getting There and the Best Time to Visit
Albarella is located about 60 kilometers south of Venice. By car, take the A13 or the coastal road to Rosolina, and from there, head to the island—access is via a controlled gate, and day visitors must register in advance. The nearest major airport is Venice (VCE), though Verona and Bologna are also easily accessible. The best times to visit are spring and early fall: From April through June and in September, the weather is mild, less windy than in midsummer, and significantly quieter than during the July/August vacation season. Since the course is open year-round, you can play even on mild days in winter.
Who would enjoy Albarella Golf Links?
Albarella is a great choice for anyone who wants to combine golf with a vacation atmosphere and nature: families who want to enjoy the beach and go biking in addition to playing a round of golf, couples looking for a quiet golf weekend, and ambitious players seeking the thrill of a wind-swept links course. The four tees and the fair layout make the course easily playable even for players with moderate handicaps.
If you’re expecting classic championship golf with dramatic elevation changes, you’re better off on a hilly mountain course—Albarella is flat and close to nature. On the other hand, if you’re looking for island tranquility, ocean views, and a classic Adriatic course, you’ll find one of the most special courses here for Golf in Italy.
