A 17-year-old teenager from Padua is currently fighting for his life. He fell from a balcony on the Greek island of Corfu on the night of July 10-11. The teenager was in a vacation apartment with seven friends to celebrate the end of the school year when the accident occurred.
The teenagers were in their accommodation when the student fell over the balustrade of the balcony for reasons that are still unclear and fell around seven meters. None of the friends were able to witness the fall directly. Alerted by loud noises, they immediately provided first aid and called the emergency services.
The teenager suffered serious head and facial injuries in the collision. After the emergency services arrived, he was first stabilized and then taken to a hospital on Corfu, where he is being treated in intensive care. His condition is still described as critical and the next few days will be decisive for the further course of his health.
The teenager's parents traveled to Greece the following day to be with their son. Meanwhile, the local authorities are investigating various scenarios. An accident caused by loss of balance is currently considered likely, but deliberate action is also not being ruled out. Indications of alcohol or drug consumption have not yet been confirmed.
The tragic event has caused great consternation in the teenager's home town. Friends, family and the school community are shocked and hope that his health will improve soon. Meanwhile, investigators continue their work to establish the exact circumstances of the fall.
