FORMIA - A shocking case of suspected abuse has shaken a school in Formia in the province of Latina and called the judiciary to the scene. A teacher is being investigated on serious charges of raping two underage schoolgirls. As a first consequence and to protect the potential victims, the investigating judge has ordered the man to be suspended from teaching for the maximum period permitted by law.
School management acted after the allegations became known
The court order, which was enforced by the police in Formia, describes the alleged acts as having been committed "in a serious manner and in a context of particular vulnerability of the victims". The case underlines the absolute breach of trust in an environment that must be a safe place for children and young people. The investigation got underway after the principal of the school in question filed a complaint with the authorities herself. This exemplary action was apparently preceded by information about the incidents, which are said to have occurred a few weeks earlier. It is still unclear whether the principal was informed directly by the two pupils concerned, by fellow pupils or by the parents. The public prosecutor's office is now conducting an in-depth investigation into the case in close cooperation with the investigators in order to fully clarify the serious allegations. The suspension ensures that the accused teacher has no further contact with pupils while the investigation is ongoing.
