Taranto - Tough action against violations in agriculture. The Carabinieri carried out targeted checks together with the labor inspectorate. The aim of the campaign was to combat illegal employment and unacceptable working conditions.
In Marina di Ginosa, the officers raided a wine and vegetable farm. The 53-year-old owner received a criminal complaint. Apparently, she had neither had her employees medically examined nor sufficiently warned of the dangers. Particularly explosive: one employee was at the wheel of a tractor without even having a driving license or the necessary instruction. To protect the employees, the Carabinieri ordered the immediate closure of the farm.
Lack of training in Taranto
The investigators uncovered another case directly in Taranto. Here, a 35-year-old entrepreneur received a complaint for inadequate occupational health and safety. Two of his employees were working without any safety training for their specific tasks.
During the operation, the officers checked numerous workers for regular employment contracts. In the end, the fines imposed amounted to around 20,000 euros. By law, the presumption of innocence applies to all defendants until a final conviction is handed down.
