The NAS carabinieri in Rome have placed a doctor under house arrest for continuing to operate illegally despite being banned from practicing his profession. The measure was ordered by the investigating judge in Rome at the request of the public prosecutor's office.
The doctor was recently caught performing a procedure in a private apartment in Rome. This arrest is the result of an extensive investigation by the anti-fraud and health authorities.
Dangerous practice despite ban
The investigations brought incriminating evidence to light. Although the doctor had already been suspended from the medical profession as a precautionary measure, he continued his work.
He was last caught performing an otoplasty in a bedroom of a private apartment in the Quadraro district of Rome. The hygienic conditions were catastrophic and there were even dogs running around freely in the operating room.
Long list of offenses
The professional ban resulted from earlier proceedings in which he was investigated for unauthorized operations and coercion. He was also the focus of the public prosecutor's office because a woman had died after undergoing liposuction.
Despite these serious accusations and the ban, the doctor ignored all regulations and safety standards. He operated in makeshift locations with the help of a retired nurse. The patient, who had already been administered an anesthetic, was lying on a makeshift table.
It is emphasized that the person concerned is presumed innocent until a final judgment has been passed.
