Rome – On August 11, 2026, the Commander-in-Chief of the Carabinieri, General Salvatore Luongo, completed an extensive tour of the Carabinieri units in Camerino (Province of Macerata), Arquata del Tronto (Province of Ascoli Piceno), and Amatrice (province of Rieti). The visit was intended to facilitate direct dialogue with the operational forces and to review key infrastructure projects.
In Camerino, General Luongo met with representatives of the local Carabinieri company. He emphasized the essential connection to the community and highlighted the concept of the „Arma’s extended family,“ to which all Carabinieri belong, regardless of rank. The general thanked the officers for their daily courage and their dedication to the common good. He also inspected the progress of the renovation work on the old barracks building.
The Carabinieri as a Bridge to the Civilian Population
The next stop was Arquata del Tronto, where the general visited the Carabinieri station and the „Parco“ Carabinieri unit. There, he described the institution as a „bridge“ between military discipline and the needs of the civilian population. Luongo emphasized that institutional credibility stems from mutual trust, which is a necessary condition for overcoming fear and effectively protecting communities. He defined the Carabinieri’s mission as a protective watchful eye focused on Italian families.
The trip concluded in Amatrice, a region severely affected by the 2016 earthquake. After visiting the Carabinieri station and the „Parco“ unit, General Luongo emphasized the particular importance of being close to the local population in such areas. The Carabinieri must be vibrant and dynamic, a beacon of hope for citizens in need. He expressed his appreciation to the Carabinieri present for their valuable work and emphasized tradition and values as the foundation for a modern and competitive force. Another focus of the visit was the logistical situation: Luongo personally surveyed the military’s temporary accommodations and the construction progress of the new barracks.
The day-long trip reaffirmed the bond between the Carabinieri leadership and the communities and decentralized units throughout the country.
