Tiers – The trail calendar for 2026 is taking shape. The organizing committee of the Rosengarten-Schlern-Sky Marathon has officially opened the registration portal for the ninth edition of the popular mountain race. On Saturday, July 11, 2026, the municipality of Tiers will once again become the center of the international trail running scene when hundreds of athletes compete against the impressive backdrop of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site.
Premiere for trail beginners in the Dolomites
The year 2026 marks a significant change for amateur athletes. The organizers have responded to the frequently expressed desire to offer a more accessible distance. For the first time, a 16-kilometer route with an elevation gain of around 800 meters will be included in the program. This run is specifically aimed at those who want to gain their first experience in alpine terrain without having to tackle the extreme distances straight away.
However, interested parties should not hesitate too long, as the number of participants for the premiere of this short distance race is limited to 100. The participation fee for this new format is €70. In this way, the committee wants to ensure that even newcomers can enjoy the „legendary mountain world” around the Rosengarten safely and in an exclusive setting.
Proven classics for the elite
Despite the innovations, the core of the event remains true to its demanding roots. The supreme discipline continues to cover 46 kilometers and challenges runners with around 3,000 meters of elevation gain. A special feature of this marathon is the consistent avoidance of asphalt: the entire route runs through high alpine terrain. This requires not only excellent physical condition but also a head for heights.
In addition, there is the medium distance of 36 kilometers and 2,000 meters of elevation gain, which is also considered a great sporting challenge. Regardless of the route chosen, all participants can look forward to a generous starter pack filled with regional specialties and products. The finish line for all runners is traditionally located in the village square in Tiers, where they will be welcomed by spectators and competitors after their „heroic feat.” Registration is now open on the official event website.
