A dangerous incident occurred at the Red Bull Cliff Diving event in Polignano a Mare, Italy, on June 28: Canadian professional cliff diver Molly Carlson slipped off the 22-metre platform during her jump and fell uncontrollably into the depths. As the 26-year-old herself explained, it was the "scariest moment of her life".
Video footage shows Carlson losing her footing during her run-up and falling forward. In a spontaneous reaction, she turned her body into a position where she could at least dive feet first into the water. Nevertheless, she suffered a painful bruise on her foot, but was spared serious injury.
Carlson later analyzed the accident on social media and attributed the cause to excessive speed during the run-up, which led to her toes already protruding over the platform. After the fall, she withdrew from further competition so as not to risk her health. She emphasized her gratitude for having survived the accident relatively unscathed.
