Rome - Almost 200,000 employees of the Italian central government will receive higher salaries. The Agency for Public Administration Collective Bargaining (Aran) and the trade unions have agreed on a new collective agreement for central government functions. This includes ministries, tax authorities and non-economic public institutions. The agreement is valid for the period 2025 to 2027.
Up to 221 euros more per month
The average salary increase is 160 euros per month. The increase varies depending on the pay grade: Employees in lower salary groups will receive at least 126.60 euros more, while employees with higher qualification profiles will receive up to 221 euros. The increases will be paid out in three stages: on January 1, 2025, January 1, 2026 and January 1, 2027.
Cgil signs - a first
The participation of the Fp-Cgil union, which had not yet signed the previous collective agreement, is particularly noteworthy. Its signature is seen as a sign of broader union support for the agreement. Roberto Chierchia, General Secretary of Cisl Fp, described the result as a great success for employees in the state, authorities and public institutions. He also emphasized that a collective agreement had been concluded during the term of the previous agreement, which had never happened before in the public sector.
Cisl Fp puts the salary increase at 7.6%. Together with the previous agreement for the years 2022 to 2024, the increases add up to around 12%. The new agreement also includes new regulations for professional development, parental leave, commuter benefits and better protection for employees diagnosed with cancer or disabilities. Before the agreement becomes legally effective, it still has to pass through the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Court of Auditors and the Council of Ministers.
