Venice – Cristiana Brandolini d’Adda has died. The Contessa passed away at the age of 99 at her home in Venice. As the sister of the legendary industrialist Gianni Agnelli and the last surviving member of her generation of the Agnelli family, she embodied a unique sense of elegance and discretion for decades.
Born in Turin in 1927, she was one of seven children and the granddaughter of Giovanni Agnelli, the founder of the Fiat automotive group. She and her brother Gianni were not only close as siblings but also shared a strong affinity in taste and style—she was considered his favorite sister. Unlike other members of the powerful dynasty, she never sought the spotlight.
Cristiana Brandolini d’Adda: A Life Between Art and Style
Her life unfolded between Venice, Paris, and the Vistorta estate in Friuli. Famous photographers captured her on camera, and her flair for fashion and interior design made her a style icon who made an impression more through her poise than through her appearances. She understood elegance as an inner discipline, not merely a pose.
Her death marks the end of a chapter in Italian social history. Brandolini d’Adda was one of the last living witnesses to an era in which the Agnelli family helped shape Italy’s image in business, style, and high society.
