Lost your job in Italy? If so, you may be eligible for NASpI, the government’s unemployment benefits program. This guide explains who is eligible, how much you’ll receive, how long benefits will be paid, and how to submit your application to the INPS by the deadline.
What is NASpI?
The NASpI (New Social Insurance for Employment) is the monthly Unemployment Benefits Social Security INPS. It supports people who involuntarily who have lost their jobs, for a limited time.
Who Is Eligible
Three conditions must be met:
- Involuntary Unemployment: for example, after termination by the employer. In the case of Voluntary resignation As a rule, there is no entitlement—unless there is a valid reason (just cause).
- At least 13 weeks of contributions over the past 4 years.
- You are a unemployed (unemployed) registered and available for work.

Amount and Duration
Height: around 75 % of your average monthly wage up to a certain threshold (plus 25 % of the portion above that threshold), with a maximum of approximately in 2026 €1,584.70 (gross) per month.
Duration: half of the contribution weeks from the last 4 years, up to a maximum of 24 months. Starting in the 6th month, the amount decreases by 3 % per month (for people over 55, only starting in the 8th month).
How to Apply for NASpI
- You submit the application online through INPS (with SPID, CIE, or through a patronato).
- Deadline: within 68 days after the employment relationship ends.
- If the application is submitted within 8 days Payments begin on the 8th day; otherwise, they begin the day after the application is filed.
- Get in touch within 15 days at the Centro per l’Impiego (Employment Office) and submit the declaration of availability (DID) from.
Obligations and Special Cases
While you're receiving benefits, you must actively looking for work and participate in programs offered by the employment office (condizionalità).
