In the morning, Monviso still casts long shadows across the fairways as you stand at the first tee: The Saluzzo Golf Club is a 9-hole, par-36 course located at the foot of the highest mountain in the Cottian Alps, combining golf with one of Piedmont’s most beautiful mountain panoramas.
The course measures approximately 3,040 meters from the men’s tees, consisting of two par-5s, five par-4s, and two par-3s. The course near Castellar, a district of Saluzzo in the province of Cuneo, is manageable, straightforward, and playable year-round—ideal for a relaxed round without much effort.
If you want to combine golf with culture and fine dining, you've come to the right place: The medieval Marchesato town of Saluzzo is just a few minutes away. This makes the club a great addition to your Golf Vacation in Piedmont.

The Course: 9 holes at the foot of Monviso
The Saluzzo Golf Club is a classic 9-hole course that winds its way across the flat, easily walkable plains south of Saluzzo. For a full 18-hole round, you play the loop twice—from the men’s tees, the course measures about 6,000 meters and is a par 72.
With two par-5s, five par-4s, and two par-3s, the nine holes offer a well-balanced mix. Water hazards, bunkers, and a few rows of older trees add variety without being too challenging. Since the course is mostly flat, it’s perfect for a quick round after work or a relaxing day for two.
The clubhouse is housed in a restored old watermill and features the Rua Veja restaurant—a charming setting to enjoy after your round. The large practice area, complete with covered tees as well as putting, pitching, and chipping greens, rounds out the facility.
Who designed the Saluzzo Golf Club?
There is no public record of a prominent golf architect having designed the Saluzzo Golf Club—the course has evolved in several phases. It all began in 1995 with a simple practice facility; in 2002, the club relocated and operated under the name Golf La Morra.
The current 9-hole course was built in 2007 and 2008 under the name Golf Castellar. In 2010, the clubhouse in the historic watermill was renovated, and since 2014, the ASD Golf Club Saluzzo has managed the facility. The fact that no big name is associated with its design fits the character of the course: down-to-earth, rooted in the region, and without pretensions.

Training Facility, Restaurant, and Services
The Saluzzo Golf Club is, first and foremost, a friendly, family-run club—and you can tell that from its facilities. The driving range offers both covered and open tees on mats and grass, plus a dedicated putting, pitching, and chipping green, as well as a practice bunker for your short game.
A pro shop, equipment rentals (clubs, trolleys, electric trolleys, and golf carts), and professional guidance are available. After your round, the clubhouse restaurant Rua Veja, located in the old watermill, invites you to enjoy Piedmontese cuisine. It’s best to reserve your tee time in advance—especially on weekends, when this compact course tends to be fully booked.
Getting There and the Best Time to Visit
The Saluzzo Golf Club is located near Castellar, about a five-minute drive southwest of Saluzzo’s historic center. It’s easily accessible via the A6 highway (Turin–Savona) and the roads leading toward Cuneo; from Turin, the drive takes about an hour, depending on traffic. The nearest major airports are Cuneo-Levaldigi (about 40 km) and Turin-Caselle (about 75 km).
Since the course is open year-round, you can play almost anytime. It’s most enjoyable in the spring and early fall, when temperatures are mild and Monviso is often still covered in snow. In the height of summer, it’s worth teeing off early; in the winter, the course remains a peaceful option when the weather is good.
Who would benefit from joining the Saluzzo Golf Club?
The Saluzzo Golf Club is a great choice for anyone who prefers a laid-back golf experience: for beginners and those returning to the sport, for families, and for golfers who prefer an easy-to-play 9-hole course with mountain views to an expensive championship course. It’s also a great stop on a tour of Piedmont—combined with a visit to Saluzzo’s historic center and the region’s cuisine.
This course isn’t the best fit if you’re looking for a sprawling 18-hole resort with a spa, hotel, and tournament facilities—for that, courses like those in Monferrato are a better choice. But if you’re looking for authentic, affordable golf at the foot of Monviso, this is the perfect spot. You can find more destinations in our overview of Golf in Italy.
