Imagine this: You’re standing on the tee, with Monte Conero towering behind you and the Adriatic Sea glistening through the pine trees ahead of you. This is exactly where the Conero Golf Club is located—an 18-hole championship course (par 71), nestled in the heart of the Monte Conero Regional Park near Sirolo in the Marche region.
The course was designed by architect Marco Croze, opened in 1992, and winds its way over 5,629 meters (men’s course) through hilly terrain featuring water hazards and Mediterranean vegetation. There is also a short 5-hole executive course—ideal for warming up or for a quick round in the evening.
The sea, the mountains, and golf all in one place: The Conero Golf Club is the perfect addition to your Golf Vacations in the Marche Region.

The Course: An 18-hole course between Monte Conero and the Adriatic Sea
The Conero Golf Club’s championship course measures 5,629 meters from the yellow tees and is a par-71 course. That may sound compact, but the hilly terrain at the foot of Monte Conero will challenge you: Blind shots, elevation changes, and several water hazards call for a clear strategy rather than sheer distance. From the red tees, the course is a bit more relaxed at 5,087 meters.
Olive trees, pine trees, and Mediterranean scrub line the fairways—a typical feature of the Monte Conero Regional Park, where the course is located. Time and again, the view opens up to the Adriatic Sea, which lies just a few kilometers away behind the cliffs. Those who prefer a shorter round can play the additional 5-hole executive course, which is ideal for warming up or for beginners. A handicap limit of 36 applies to the full round.
Who designed Conero Golf Club?
The course was designed by Italian golf architect Marco Croze and opened in 1992. Croze is one of Italy’s most prolific designers and has designed over 50 courses, including well-known courses such as Franciacorta, Villa Condulmer, and Lignano. At Conero, he made use of the natural, undulating terrain: instead of leveling it, he routed the 18 holes across the hills and incorporated the existing waterways as hazards.
The result is a varied course that prioritizes precision over power. No two holes are alike, and the undulating fairways create plenty of challenging lies—ideal for golfers who want to test their short game and ball-striking skills.
Clubhouse, Practice Facility, and Ristorante del Golf
The Conero Golf Club is more than just the course. The practice facilities include a driving range with covered tees, a putting green, a pitching green, and a practice bunker—enough to get you warmed up before your round. PGA-certified golf instructors and a golf school are available to provide lessons, ranging from introductory courses to courses leading to a golf license.
After the game, the Ristorante del Golf awaits you with its terrace and views of the course. A pro shop, a swimming pool, and rentals of clubs, trolleys, and electric carts round out the offerings; a caddie can be arranged upon request. This way, a round of golf quickly turns into a full day out in the countryside.
Getting There and the Best Time to Visit
The Conero Golf Club is located at Via Betelico 6 in 60020 Sirolo (AN), about 20 kilometers south of Ancona. From Ancona-Falconara Airport, it takes about 30 minutes by car to reach the course; from the Ancona train station, it takes a little longer. The A14 highway (Ancona Sud exit) takes you within a few kilometers of the course; the final stretch runs through the nature park.
The season runs from February through December. Spring and early fall are the most pleasant times to play, when temperatures are mild and the coast isn’t yet crowded. In midsummer, it’s best to tee off early because the sun beats down fiercely over the hills. Booking your tee time in advance is especially recommended at the championship course.
Who would enjoy Conero Golf Club?
The Conero Golf Club is well worth a visit for anyone who wants to combine golf with a vacation: the combination of the sea, Monte Conero, and a technically challenging par-71 course is rare in Italy. Players with intermediate and advanced handicaps will find a genuine challenge on the undulating fairways, while beginners can start small on the 5-hole executive course and the practice range.
This course isn't the best choice if you're looking for a flat, easy-to-walk course—the hilly terrain takes its toll on your legs, and a cart is no luxury on hot days. If you want to visit multiple courses on one trip, you'll find more destinations in our overview of Golf in Italy.
