Wild chase from Crema to Milan
Moscazzano - Following a burglary on Wednesday morning, the carabinieri arrested four men. One of them took part in a spectacular chase that led from the province of Cremona to Milan and involved the use of a helicopter.
At around 9:40 a.m. on Wednesday, a resident in Moscazzano reported that four people had broken into her neighbor's property. When the perpetrators realized that they were being watched, they fled in a brown Dacia Duster.
Offenders split up on the run
The operations center immediately sent all available patrol cars to the area and had the area cordoned off. A police helicopter spotted the getaway vehicle shortly afterwards. When a patrol tried to stop the Dacia in Moscazzano, the driver sped off. His three accomplices had already jumped out of the car and disappeared on foot in the streets of the town.
Thanks to a tip-off from another citizen, the officers were able to track down the three fleeing men shortly afterwards in a street not far from the scene of the crime. Two of them were arrested after a brief resistance. The third tried to escape through a garden and across neighboring fields, where he hid in a ditch. However, the officers were quickly able to apprehend him. The police found stolen goods on the men from a burglary committed shortly before: clothing, perfume and jewelry. The loot was returned to the owners.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Dacia continued his reckless escape. He overtook dangerously, drove into oncoming traffic and endangered other road users and the police officers. The chase led over several country roads to the Milan Tangenziale. In the Sella Nuova district of Milan, the man abandoned the car and tried to flee on foot, but was caught up with and arrested by the pursuing carabinieri.
As it turned out, the Dacia Duster had been stolen in Milan in February and had fake license plates. The driver was taken to prison in Cremona. His three accomplices were also remanded in custody after a judge confirmed the arrests on Friday morning.
