Rome - After a long and unsettled period of extreme weather conditions, things are finally looking up in Italy. Just in time for the 2026 holidays, an African high-pressure system is bringing sunny, stable and extremely mild spring weather to the peninsula. The feared rainfall on Easter Monday is unlikely to occur this year.
However, meteorologists are still urging caution until the Monday before the holidays: further widespread precipitation is expected on the central Adriatic and in the south. In central Italy, snow will fall from 1,000 meters, in the south from 1,300 meters, accompanied by persistent wind.
Bright sunshine on Easter Sunday
On Easter Sunday, April 5, the area of high pressure will ensure mostly cloudless skies across the country. A moderate Tramontana wind will blow only on the Ionian Sea, causing some swell, while the winds will be weak elsewhere. Temperatures are well above the seasonal average: highs reach 18 to 24 degrees almost everywhere, with local peaks of 25 to 26 degrees possible.
Heat records on Easter Monday
The friendly weather will continue on Easter Monday, April 6. Apart from a few harmless clouds in the mountain regions, sunshine will dominate. Temperatures will continue to rise, reaching around 22 degrees in the north, 24 degrees in the center and up to 25 degrees nationwide. The absolute peak values can even reach 26 to 27 degrees. It will be unusually warm for the time of year, especially in the center, north and Sardinia.
According to current forecasts, the stable and warm weather is set to continue until at least Thursday, April 9. Only towards the end of the week, from Friday, April 10, will there be signs of a change in the weather in the central Mediterranean. The high pressure phase could then subside and a more unstable weather situation could cause temperatures to drop back to the typical level for this time of year.
