CAPENA (ROME) - An act of violence of incomprehensible banality and brutality has shaken the community of Capena near Rome. The 65-year-old showman Stefano Cena died as a result of a serious attack he suffered on the night of October 5-6. The public prosecutor's office in Tivoli has now extended the investigation and is investigating the case as a murder. Three young men are the focus of judicial attention.
The fatal altercation took place during the traditional grape and wine festival in the village. Stefano Cena was attacked by a group of youths after they refused to pay the price for a ride on his carousel. The situation escalated and the showman was beaten up so badly that he had to be taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he died a few days later.
Murder investigation underway
The carabinieri of the Monterotondo company and the Capena station intervened on the night of the crime and initially reported nine people. Following the death of the victim, the public prosecutor's office intensified the investigation. According to Andrea Calice, the leading public prosecutor, three men aged between 20 and 25 are now being officially investigated for murder. The aim of further investigations is to identify the exact dynamics of the crime, the motive and all other accomplices. An autopsy of the body has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
