Sardinia - A vacation on the Italian Mediterranean island ended in horror for a 28-year-old tourist from France. As the vacationer Giovanni Caselli reported to the French newspaper „Midi Libre“, he was attacked by a shark while swimming off the Sardinian coast.
Attack during training
According to the young man, he had traveled to the seaside for a few days on vacation. Before the incident, he wanted to capture the scenery for his social networks. „I wanted to make a video with turquoise blue water and a sunset for my social media channels,“ Caselli told the French newspaper. He then announced to his wife that he wanted to do some intensive swimming training over 500 meters.
While he was in the water, the animal suddenly approached him. At first, the shark did not appear aggressive, the 28-year-old reported. But then it attacked.
Escape to the beach
„He attacked me and bit me five times, fortunately only superficially,“ Caselli described the anxious moments. Despite the unexpected attack, the Frenchman managed to fight back and flee towards the shore. After the first few bites, the shark let go of him and swam away.
The tourist got off lightly in the incident: he only suffered minor injuries to one hand, his knee and his calf. There were no further health consequences.
