Prato - A five-year-old girl is in intensive care at the Meyer Pediatric Hospital in Florence after a serious traffic accident. Doctors are currently keeping the prognosis under wraps.
The incident took place on Sunday, March 15, at around 11 a.m. on Via Braga in the southern district of Tavola in Prato. According to an initial reconstruction of the course of events, the girl of Chinese nationality suddenly escaped from her mother's supervision. The child ran out onto the road just as a car drove past. According to the driver involved, the collision was completely unavoidable.
Rapid rescue chain initiated
The emergency services were on the scene immediately. In addition to the 118 emergency medical service and the municipal police, the Pegaso rescue helicopter was also deployed. The child was first stabilized at the scene by the paramedics and then transported as a red code to the Careggi hospital before being transferred to the Meyer children's hospital in Florence.
Condition of the child and investigations
The five-year-old suffered polytrauma in the collision. According to the latest information, however, she is on the way to stabilization, even if the medical prognosis is still subject to change. The municipal police are currently carrying out further investigations in order to fully clarify the exact dynamics of the accident. An alcohol test carried out on the driver was negative.
