TEMPIO PAUSANIA (SASSARI) - A terrible tragedy occurred on Saturday night in the Gallura region of Sardinia. A 25-year-old man from Calangianus, Omar Masia, was killed when a car with five young occupants plunged off a bridge. The white BMW Series 1 was on the Baldu-L'Agnata road, apparently on its way to a private party.
Victim's father on duty as a firefighter
The accident, the causes of which are still unclear, took a particularly dramatic turn. According to initial investigations by the carabinieri of Tempio Pausania, the BMW left the road, broke through the bridge railing and plunged several meters into the ground. Possible causes are excessive speed or the poor condition of the road surface. Massimiliano Masia, the father of the 25-year-old victim, was among the rescue workers from the Tempio fire department who were alerted. He was on duty and had to discover the death of his own son at the scene of the accident. The commander of the Sassari fire department, Antonio Giordano, expressed his deepest condolences to his colleague on behalf of the entire corps for this „immeasurable pain“. The tragedy has deeply shaken the entire Gallura region.
