Vicenza/Rosà- A mysterious missing person case is currently keeping the authorities in Veneto busy. Since January 2, there has been no trace of 78-year-old engineer Antonio Menegon. Menegon, who lives in Tezze sul Brenta and runs his office in Rosà, is known throughout the country as a technical expert who is intensively involved in the legality of speed measuring devices. His sudden disappearance poses a great mystery to the investigators.
An office as if frozen: mysterious traces in Rosà
The search for the senior citizen began after work colleagues were unable to reach the single widower by phone or in person. When the fire department finally opened his office in Rosà together with the carabinieri, they were met with a disturbing sight. It was as if time had stood still: The engineer's computer was still switched on and his personal belongings were lying on the desk, including his bunch of keys and his cell phone.
Even his jacket was still hanging in the office, which seems particularly unusual given the wintry temperatures in early January. His private car and van were also parked in front of the building, both properly locked. There is no indication that Menegon had planned an extended absence.
The „Paladin“ in the fight against unauthorized speed cameras
Antonio Menegon is no stranger to this. Among experts and motorists, he enjoys a reputation as the „paladin of the anti-speed camera movement“. With his expert opinions and technical expertise, he played a decisive role in the Cosenza public prosecutor's office ordering the confiscation of numerous Autovelox devices throughout Italy in the past. The „Altvelox“ association, which campaigns for the rights of road users, has already expressed its deep concern at the disappearance of its esteemed colleague.
The carabinieri of Rosà have taken over the investigation and are currently looking into all possible scenarios. As no signs of burglary have been found and the condition of the office suggests that it was left hastily or involuntarily, the investigation is looking in all directions. So far, however, there is no concrete indication of the 78-year-old's whereabouts.
