Roncoferraro - A serious traffic accident rocked the municipality of Roncoferraro in the province of Mantua early on Monday morning. Two 25-year-old men lost their lives after being hit by a van on their way to work.
Collision at dawn
The tragic accident occurred at around 5:00 a.m. in Via Alessandro Volta. The two young men, whose exact identity is not given in the press release, were riding together on a single bicycle. They were on their way to one of the many livestock farms in the agricultural plain around Mantua to start their work shift.
For reasons that are not yet clear, the two workers were run over by an approaching Fiat Ducato. The force of the impact was so severe that the two 25-year-olds succumbed to their serious injuries at the scene of the accident. As a result of the collision, the vehicle involved went out of control and overturned in an adjacent ditch.
Rescue operations and investigations
The 68-year-old driver of the van sustained injuries in the rollover. After receiving first aid at the scene, he was immediately taken to hospital in Mantua. Fortunately, according to current information, the driver's life is not in danger.
Immediately after receiving the emergency call, numerous emergency services arrived at the scene. The Mantua fire department, two emergency ambulances and two ambulances were deployed intensively. However, all medical assistance came too late for the two young cyclists; the emergency medical team present could only determine that the two workers had died.
The Carabinieri immediately began an official investigation in order to reconstruct the exact course of events in this tragedy. The officers closed the affected section of road to all traffic so that the necessary forensics and extensive accident analyses could be carried out undisturbed. The exact circumstances that led to this fatal collision at dawn are still the subject of ongoing investigations by the security forces.
