Man Stopped at Termini Station: He Is Alleged to Have Blackmailed His Ex-Girlfriend with Revenge Porn
Rome – Dramatic scenes unfolded Thursday evening at Rome’s Termini Central Station. Carabinieri arrested a 37-year-old man there who tried to forcibly drag his 20-year-old ex-girlfriend onto a train bound for Naples. The young woman desperately fought back against the attempt.
The incident was triggered by an emergency call from the 20-year-old’s sister. She alerted the police and reported that her sister was in immediate danger. A Carabinieri patrol rushed to the train station immediately and discovered the couple on one of the platforms. The officers immediately recognized the young woman’s distress and intervened. They freed her from the man’s grip and arrested him.
Months of Abuse
As the woman later testified, the incident at the train station was merely the culmination of a long series of abuses and harassment. To prevent her from calling for help, the man had previously taken her cell phone away from her. The day before, he had already injured her so severely that she had to be treated at the hospital; the doctors estimated that it would take ten days for her to recover.
The investigation also brought to light a particularly insidious method of blackmail. The man, who is from Naples and is already known to the police for violent and property crimes, is alleged to have threatened to post an intimate video of her online. Using this so-called „revenge porn,“ he wanted to force her to resume the relationship.
Following the woman's complaint, the 37-year-old was taken to Regina Coeli Prison in Rome. He is now in the custody of the courts. Until a final judgment is handed down, the man is presumed innocent.
