A tragic traffic accident shakes the town of Bisceglie in Apulia. Emanuele Cosmai (57) and his wife Patrizia Firrao (58) were driving home from Florence on Friday evening, where they had been attending their daughter's graduation ceremony, the Laurea. On the A1 highway, shortly before the Roma Sud exit, their car collided with a van for reasons as yet unexplained. Both spouses died at the scene of the accident.
The 21-year-old daughter and her fiancé, a Carabinieri maresciallo, were also in the car. They were seriously injured and taken to hospital by helicopter. The 25-year-old driver of the van also suffered injuries, but his condition is not considered life-threatening.
Bisceglie is in mourning - the town is shocked.
The news of the accident caused deep shock in the town. Mayor Angelantonio Angarano expressed his condolences to the family and reminded them that the municipality had already been shaken by a similar stroke of fate in April. The carabinieri association Unarma Puglia also expressed its shock and wished the injured Maresciallo and his daughter a speedy recovery.
Emanuele Cosmai was known in the city as a dedicated civil servant and was held in high regard by colleagues as a "galantuomo", as representatives of the Conaippe trade union explained.
