Investigators apprehend suspected serial robber
Pescara – The Carabinieri have dealt a blow to street crime. Following an intensive investigation, they arrested a 21-year-old man from Popoli. He is strongly suspected of having committed two robberies in Pescara in May.
The first incident occurred on May 19 in the Porta Nuova neighborhood. There, the suspect allegedly approached a 20-year-old man, grabbed him, and threatened him until the man handed over 50 euros. Just a few days later, on May 25, the perpetrator struck again, this time on Corso Vittorio Emanuele. Around 1 a.m., he approached a 19-year-old who was on his way home. At first, he pretended to be in distress and asked for five euros. When the victim refused, the attacker became violent and stole 70 euros.
Video cameras led to success
Although the two young victims were in shock, they were able to provide investigators with crucial information. They described the attacker, the sequence of events, and the direction in which he fled. The Carabinieri cross-referenced these statements with footage from the city’s surveillance cameras. The videos proved to be the key to success: they helped the officers reconstruct the events precisely and identify the suspect.
On the orders of the investigating judge in Pescara, the 21-year-old, who was already known to the police, was arrested. The case is still in the investigative stage. Until a final conviction is handed down, the man is presumed innocent.
