Retiree Chases Thief to the ATM
Pianezza – Last Thursday afternoon, a 59-year-old woman attempted to rob a retiree with a feigned, heartfelt hug. She pretended to be an old acquaintance and, in the process, snatched the 89-year-old’s wallet. But she hadn’t counted on the vigilant senior citizen.
The man noticed the theft just a few moments later. Instead of panicking, he discreetly began to follow his „loving acquaintance.“ He followed her from Via 25 Aprile to the nearest bank branch. There, he watched as the woman tried to withdraw money from an ATM using his stolen bank card.
While the thief was busy entering her PIN, the retiree dialed the emergency number 112. He explained the situation to the dispatch center and provided a detailed description of the woman. A patrol from the nearby Carabinieri station in Alpignano arrived on the scene within minutes. The officers were able to catch the 59-year-old woman red-handed right at the ATM and arrest her.
The woman from Pinerolo is now accused of pickpocketing and attempted fraud involving payment methods. A judge in Turin has since ordered her to be placed under house arrest. The accused is presumed innocent until a final judgment is rendered.
